LIONS
CLUB
The Kootingal Art Exhibition and Sales (commonly known as Kooty Art Show) is organised by the Kootingal Lions Club, New South Wales.
The aim of the exhibition is to promote artists, especially in regional areas, and provide them with a forum to display their works and the opportunity to sell their paintings.
Kootingal Lions Club is dedicated to making our community a better place to live.We welcome any feedback and suggestions from our local community and would appreciate your offers to help with our projects. We all have a role to play in strengthening our community. We hope you have enjoyed our Australia day festivities, the Anzac parade and service as well as other events from Kootingal Lions. We invite everyone to join us in our mission to support local causes and make a difference together.
Last year we were delighted to have the assistance of the students of Tamworth high who were pursuing the Big Picture Academy where social action projects are one part of their learning outcomes. These students have helped with the promotion of the show and the arrangement’s of the venue for the exhibition. We are pleased to promote Ella Scott, a member of the Big Picture Academy and student of Tamworth High School, as our Lions Youth Of The Year candidate for Kootingal Lions. We wish Ella well with her future career.
In our local area, we have been working with the Lions Eye Health Program (LEHP Australia), to improve children's vision through eyesight checks. We have formed a team of eyesight testers from two lions clubs and members of the public. We are receive training and must have a working with children check before being allowed to participate. At the time of writing we have checked eyes at two local schools. For more information, please contact kootingal@lions201n1.au we can assist your school or group to carry out the required testing and detect many vision anomalies.
This year our Lions club held a special screening of the widely acclaimed “Just a Framer” to promote goof mental health in our rural communities. The take home message was “its OK to seek help” and “sooner is better”. This was a well attended event. In seeking to promote the film we have made associations with several of our mental health services in Tamworth and the area and look forward to working with them more closely.
Other local projects include: The Dolly Parton library, our Kootingal fire brigade, and Westpac helicopter service. Also on our list is the watering of the library gardens and other landscape aspects of Kootingal. Further afield, we have supported the following Lions foundations: Disaster relief, The Lions Wellbeing Foundation for mental health promotion, diabetes awareness, and Alzheimer’s research. We also support Lions assistance dogs with their wonderful inspiring work of providing dogs to assist people with hearing, diabetes and some mental health conditions.
